About Me
Born and raised in London and now practicing in California, I come from a family of female mental health counselors; we love what we do. With my background in art history and clinical mental health counseling, I am passionate about the arts and creative expression as a means for healing and growth. I take a holistic approach to wellness, considering your physical, social, mental, and emotional wellbeing.
I believe in building a warm, compassionate therapeutic relationship, incorporating humor when appropriate, and tailoring my approach to each client's needs, drawing from techniques like CBT, Mindfulness, and Client-Centered Therapy and taking a strengths-based, trauma informed approach.
Therapy is a journey of growth, understanding, and sometimes, transformation. If you're ready to explore what this journey might look like for you, or just need a listening ear, I'm here to start that conversation.
My Holistic Approach
Physical Wellbeing: Understanding the interconnection between mental and physical health, I integrate strategies that address both aspects for comprehensive care.
Social Wellbeing: I emphasize the importance of social interactions and relationships in one's mental health, guiding clients to foster healthier and more supportive connections.
Mental and Emotional Wellbeing: Central to my practice, I focus on nurturing mental and emotional balance through various therapeutic techniques.
Building Therapeutic Relationships
I believe the foundation of effective therapy is a warm, compassionate and genuine relationship with my clients. My approach:
Is Client-Centered: Putting you at the heart of the therapy process, as the expert in your own life. I take time to understand your perspective and experience, and work collaboratively with you to identify and work towards your goals.
Incorporates Humor: Where appropriate, I use humor as a tool to build rapport, ease anxiety, and bring a light-hearted perspective to our sessions.
My Techniques
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT is a highly effective, evidence-based technique focusing on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors. It's particularly beneficial for clients dealing with anxiety, depression, and stress-related issues.
Mindfulness: Incorporating mindfulness helps clients stay grounded in the present moment, enhancing self-awareness and emotional regulation. It's a powerful tool in managing anxiety, and improving overall well-being.
Strengths-Based: I help clients recognize and utilize their inner strengths, fostering resilience and a positive self-image.
Narrative Therapy: Together we will exploring the stories of your life, reauthoring them in ways that encourage a greater sense of agency and empowerment; you are the author of, and expert in, your life!
Trauma-Informed: I acknowledge and understand the wide-ranging impact of trauma and its effects on physical, emotional, and mental well-being. By integrating principles of safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowerment, this method aids in healing and resilience-building for individuals who have experienced traumatic events.
Tailoring to Individual Needs
Every client is unique, and so is my approach to each therapy session. I customize strategies to fit your individual needs, ensuring that our time together supports your personal growth and healing journey.
With my dog Theo, who hopes to be a therapy dog one day!
